I was born, raised, and lived in Kuwait, in the Jahra governorate, stateless like tens of thousands of families across Kuwait. Kuwait was the only home we ever knew. In 2012 we discovered that the Liberian passport my father had spent money we did not have, just to get a document that would ease our lives, help with paperwork, and allow us to travel between countries, had been declared fraudulent. The person who helped us obtain it told us the citizenship programme was legitimate. It was not. Ten years holding onto a document we believed proved our existence, and in a moment it was worth nothing. I never forgot that feeling, especially after going back to being stateless. Shortly after, thank God, Kuwait eased things for us and we obtained an Article 17 passport (a travel document issued to Bedoon residents), which helped with education and medical access. I am certain every Bedoon knows someone who tried something similar and lost their money, whether it was an office that promised a Caribbean passport or one of the other stories we all hear every few months.

I left Kuwait to study computer science in America. Between studying and renewing papers and renewing papers and renewing papers, I decided at some point I was not going to wait for someone else to solve this. Between 2018 and 2023 I spent years researching citizenship by investment programmes, speaking with offices, comparing what they advertised against what they actually delivered, and learning which programmes genuinely accepted stateless applicants and what documents they required from someone without valid papers like a passport or an unexpired ID. I got my passport after years of research and saving, knowing I had to be 100% certain the process was legitimate and the passport would stay with me permanently.

I built Bedune.com because there was no one in my position who could tell me what to do, and most offices honestly want to overcharge you by $10,000-$20,000 that you do not need to pay. I needed someone who understood the difference between a legitimate programme and a scam, and whether I could even use the passport to adjust my status in the future.
